Description

XP-RELAY - 8x8 TO 16X16 DIGITALLY CONTROLLED FULLY ANALOGUE AUDIO RELAY PATCH BAY

The XP-Relay is the latest member of the XPatch family, as the name suggests the crosspoint matrix is made from relays. The XP-Relay is available with a 8x8 up to 16x16 Matrix. The 16x16 uses 256 relay’s for the audio matrix and a further 16 relays for phantom power on/off.

Designed for Microphone switching or Mastering the XP-Relay has no active components in the signal path. When the XP-Relay phantom power is disabled there is a direct connection between the input and output allowing the mic-amp phantom power to be used, When XP-Relay phantom is used there is a 10 ohm Resistor+100uF capacitor in the signal line to isolate the phantom power from the Mic amp input.

The design considerations on phantom power are more complicated than I originally thought! Large capacitors and 48 volts can cause large current and/or voltage spikes when switched on or off,. It is necessary to turn off the phantom and leave time for the capacitors to discharge before switching the signal,. once switched the phantom power can be re-enabled..

When The XPatch4 software has a Master Phantom On/Off button alternatively on the XP-Relay holding the encoder push switch depressed for 4 seconds will switch the master phantom On or Off allowing the unit to be turned off gracefully. In case of a power failure or if the user pulls the plug the XP-Relay detects the loss of power and shuts down the 48v supply as fast as possible.

Users with early XP-Relay units should use the phantom on their microphone amplifier. We will exchange the processor card with a modified processor free of charge that incorporates the Master phantom enable and quick discharge circuitry. All new units will include this.
