Pultec EQM-1A Tube Mastering Equalizer
Description
The Pultec EQM-1A mastering eq is a modern recreation of the legendary EQP-1A with added stepped controls for mastering applications providing you with the huge low end, silky smooth highs and warmth that make Pultec EQs so popular and sought-after.
The Pultec EQM-1A has been meticulously adapted from the EQP-1A by Dr Steve Jackson, using only original-spec components to recreate the same stunning sound of the original vintage units. Adapted for mastering applications the EQM-1A features Progressive-taper Elma switch controls with a 0.5dB of boost and cut for precise settings and easy recall. As a result, the gain has been reduced to 10dB boost/cut instead of the original values.
Pultec EQs are truly unique in their design. They boast two bands with separate boost and cut controls that can be combined to create a resonant shelf curve. These resonant shelves are the key to the Pultec sound as it lets you boost an area without adding unwanted frequency build-up. The result is a very tight and extremely musical sound. In mastering application, these curves will allow you to add weight to a song without boxiness and add presence or air without harshness. In addition, Pultec EQs are completely passive which ensures that no distortion is generated by the equalisation. As such, the Pultec EQM-1A uses a valve-driven push-pull amplification placed after the EQ to compensate for the loss of volume associated with passive EQs.
