Description

Conjuring up a bygone age in both sound and appearance, the Placid Audio Copperphone is a lo-fi dynamic effects microphone that reproduces a limited bandwidth of frequencies reminiscent of a telephone or AM radio. Handcrafted in Texas from vintage telecommunications components, it achieves its nostalgic lo-fi sound by combining a mic element and mechanical filtering, accentuating upper midrange frequencies and attenuating low and high frequencies.

You can use The Copperphone as a standalone effects mic to add authentic vintage character to any voice or instrument. Or pair it with another more traditional microphone in any number of configurations, with or without processing, and blend the two signals to create something unique and interesting.

The Copperphone has been adopted by engineers, producers, and recording studios worldwide, but it’s just as effective in a live situation. In fact, company founder Mark Pirro, an engineer and bass player with Polyphonic Spree, originally designed The Copperphone for the band’s lead singer, Tim DeLaughter — so rest assured that it’s built to take the rigors of the road, too.
